I am a 76 yrs. grey wrinkly. 21 yrs. ago I developed a walking problem after post viral fatigue. I was off-work for 5 mos.; the first 2 mos., mainly in bed. This problem initially was intermittent, then slowly progressed to using a cane. I looked like a puppet with a string cut, as I walked in a lopsided fashion. I even secured a disability parking permit; – BUT, I had no pain !
Later I developed a prolapsed disc with significant pain. I had a successful decompression op., but the lopsided puppet persisted, ho hum !
I decided to take-up swimming again to regain fitness, eventually doing a mile 2X weekly. in early 2009 I could not swim a stroke. Any action that involved even a minor movement of my head back, stabbed pain in my lower back !
My daughters suggested that I should consider reformer pilates. After researching options, Applied Pilates stood head & shoulders above the rest. Little did I know I had hit the jackpot !
I started in Oct. 2009, 2X weekly. After 1 ½ years the interfacet joint pain was history. After another 1 ½ years, the lopsided puppet could run, jump, skip & dance ! I was simply & quite joyfully NORMAL. Patience, persistence, Teejay & now Susan was my recipe for success.
Now 10 1½ yrs on came Covid 19 & Lockdown. After 4 weeks of being housebound, the lopsided puppet is doing an encore.
Roll on the restart of pilates, July 27th 2020 !
Take charge of your health!

Have had treatment variously for what had been recurring lower back pain, a shoulder injury and sports-related oedema. The combination of Teejay’s treatment and Susan’s pilates sessions did the trick for me, fixing the first two and enabling me to keep the latter under control. What I liked was having an informed physiological explanation of what the problems and solutions were during both treatment and exercise, so I could understand the benefits of doing them. It’s a grown-up approach that encourages you take charge of your health, backed up by expertise.

I first found Teejay in Aug 13, I could hardly walk with both back and knee issues (mostly spine problems). He has completely sorted me out and I can walk with very few issues. To my wife’s joy I am now able to walk around Westfield Shopping Centre, no mean feat, though I am not sure whether that is good or bad for the wallet!
If you are reading this considering whether to try DO NOT DELAY just see Teejay he is a modern day miracle worker.
Just do it!

I was a very tired and desperate 51 year old guy whose long term back problems had led to a cessation of my very active sporting life and talks of early retirement from my physical job. Physiotherapy, acupuncture, steroid injections had provided only temporary relief and I was resorting to living on high doses of Cocodamol, just to get by. As a last throw of the dice I tried Pilates with Teejay and it has proved to be one of the best decisions I have made. Fast forward 8 months and I am swimming, cycling and managing to work unimpeded by my back condition. Teejay immediately recognised my back condition and designed a weekly programme for me to follow which I have done religiously. My core strength has improved dramatically and it is this new strength that is enabling me to manage my back condition and enjoy life to the full. I can’t recommend Teejay highly enough!

After almost 30 years of occasionally acute but short-lived back problems caused by sitting behind a desk and doing no exercise, my back finally decided “no more” and I was struck down with severe back pain from prolapsed discs and facet joint syndrome, which left me literally flat out in bed for a month. I visited consultants who wanted to operate, and an osteopath who actually made things much worse. Then I went along to Teejay and he has made an enormous difference. Thanks to a progressive exercise plan my back problem is now under control, I feel stronger and am enjoying doing exercise for the first time ever! Teejay is a great guy with masses of experience, and works at a pace best suited to you. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend him.
The Ideal Result

I arrived at Applied Pilates after doing a search on the internet as it seemed their approach might help my particular needs. I was 65, had back problems going back to 1989. I am hyper-mobile, have different leg lengths & hip sizes resulting in scoliosis & twisted hips. I have shrunk 2 1/2 inches as a consequence of the discs in my lower spine being desiccated, but then, I am a grey wrinkly. In the late 90\s I developed a walking/gait problem with associated ache/pain which was temporarily resolved by a decompression op. for vertebral stenosis L 4/5, in 2001. After 6 months the walking problem returned minus the pain. When I walked I looked like a puppet with a string cut. Then, 3 1/2 years ago I developed a new source of back pain for which my GP had no answers. After 3+ years of Applied Pilates tutelage and encouragement and twice weekly sessions of effort, & I hope a positive attitude, I have achieved ALL I could have hoped for. It took 1 1/2 years to over-come the facet joint problem that the GP could not recognize and as of October 25th 2012 I am walking normally again – what joy ! All of my family are so pleased. The process is on-going but I have no doubt that my instinct was spot-on, Applied Pilates does ”what it says on the tin”.
Thanks so much Teejay and Susan

Following a course of physiotherapy I was in despair that I would ever recover from a back injury. Teejay’s classes have enabled me to get moving again mostly pain free. His expertise and advice on the correct excercises has meant that I was able to pass the police fitness test allowing me to return to work. Thank you Teejay.
