Transformed my life
on 18 Jan 2019 by Mary | Occupation: Doctor
I suffered for years with right knee pain and intermittent joint swelling which persisted after two arthroscopies. I was developing a fixed flexion. Last year to compound matters I developed sciatica down the left leg from an osteophyte. I was in a bad way as the knee pain meant my muscles were weak, this effected my posture which in turn aggravated the sciatica. I was advised to try reformer Pilates and I was lucky to find Applied Pilates was close to where I live. When I met Teejay he was very welcoming, helpful and knowledgeable and knew exactly what I needed; he devised a programme of exercise which was tailored to my needs and as the weeks went by I became stronger, my right leg is now straight again and the sciatica has improved so much that I have days when I am totally free of pain. My life has been transformed, I look forward to my weekly sessions as I continue to strengthen my muscles and improve my posture.
Teejay’s wife Susan is delightful and very experienced too as I found out when I had some sessions with her.
One must not forget the gorgeous Jesse, the dog, who is so friendly and greets everyone.
I would urge anyone to give it a try

After my doctor and physiotherapist tried and failed to alleviate my lower back pain and sciatica, a friend recommended Applied Pilates. I knew things would only get worse if I did nothing so I called Susan and, having told her about my problems, I explained that I was in my sixties, overweight and had done no serious exercise since I left school fifty years ago. I thought she would tell me she couldn’t help, but I was so wrong! She and Teejay have made me very welcome and designed a series of exercises to help me. I have been attending classes for a year now and I am amazed at the results. After a few months, the back pain was gone. I am a lot stronger now; my posture and balance have also improved and everyday tasks have become much easier. For someone who doesn’t ‘do’ exercise, I look forward to each of Susan’s classes and really enjoy it. I would urge anyone to give it a try.
Amazing Results For Back Pain – Best Money I’ve Ever Spent!

I honestly can’t recommend Susan & Teejay highly enough. After suffering from lower back pain for years as a result of hypermobility, I hit a wall early last year when the sciatic pain was unbearable. I read some reviews for Applied Pilates & thought I would try an initial consultation. I was really impressed with Teejay & continued to have a few 1:1 sessions before moving into group classes. The reduction in my pain has been amazing, never thought it would go away & still can’t quite believe it! Susan’s classes have been fantastic, & most recently she has helped me to continue exercising throughout my pregnancy & given me brilliant care & support. I can’t imagine not coming to these classes, I’m hooked! Thanks to you both. I recommend you to everyone!

Having had trouble, well all sorts of trouble with nerve pain in my back (sciatica ) my neck arms, fingers, knees and feet for 20 years (I know, l’m a walking nightmare), I can finally say I’m so pleased and relieved to have found this studio. Over the years I’ve seen consultant after consultant, Physios Osteopaths, Alexanders, you name it I’ve been there handed over the cash. Well, I can finally and genuinely say I’m so relieved to have found a place that has improved my situation greatly. It’s hard work but I enjoy the effort and believe in putting in and getting out ! I’m not perfect, crikey but I’m so much better and I’m more positive about my body and how to look after it! Thank you very much Susan & Teejay.
My former self back again!
on 12 Jul 2017 by Jayne | Occupation: Hairdresser
After a long 3 day labour 13 years ago my beautiful daughter was born but unfortunately my coccyx got so damaged that I could not sit for longer than 10 minutes at a time, the pain was awful, with damaged ligaments and nerves. I also had a prolapsed disc in my spine and was again in agony and could not do any of my normal activities for 3 months. So I started at Applied Pilates with Susan and Teejay after them both being highly recommended. My life has changed so much…..I can now sit without being in pain and my normal activities have all resumed without being in pain. After having steroid injections every year for 12 years into my coccyx and spine I’ve not had to have anymore and hopefully shall never need another ever again thanks to my weekly Pilates workout. A huge thank you to the lovely and very clever Susan and Teejay! My former self is back again! X
Back pain gone!

After back surgery to remove a prolapsed disc I was still experiencing intermittent back pain 2 yrs later despite regular osteopath visits. I was recommended to clinical pilates and wish I had known about it years ago. My back pain has disappeared thanks to Teejay and Susan who have been supportive and fantastic teachers. My core strength has improved massively, back pain has been cured and now take weekly classes to maintain my well being. The classes are small and friendly and very welcoming. I can’t recommend the Applied Pilates too highly, excellent results and feel like I have a new lease of life.
Why didn’t I start years ago!
on 27 Oct 2016 by Natalie | Occupation: Actuary
After years of physios telling me “Pilates, pilates, pilates!” to help my back, I finally listened and started coming to group sessions with Teejay and Susan. After just 4 short months I have seen a noticeable improvement in my strength and have considerably less discomfort in my lower back. I find that many of the techniques I am learning are starting to become instinctive in my everyday life and this is making a big difference.
I thoroughly enjoy the group sessions – there is a relaxed, friendly atmosphere that is warm and welcoming, and it is also inspiring to watch those who are more advanced and know what I might be able to do one day!
I wish I had started years ago – thanks Teejay and Susan!
My back is stronger!
on 20 Jan 2015 by Allan | Occupation: IT Professional
I have been suffering from a bulging disc in my lower back for some years now. I attended TeeJay’s applied pilates for the past year, and have come out of it much stronger. Most of the pain I had is gone, I feel stronger and more confident in myself. TeeJay is also a great guy and takes great care during your workout sessions. Highly recommended.
Saved my bacon!
on 27 Nov 2014 by Lisa Martland | Occupation: Editor
Just over a year ago I injured my back while on holiday, the pain was so agonising and debilitating that I couldn’t walk. On my return the GP mis-diagnosed my condition, and it was Teejay and Susan at Applied Pilates that saved my bacon by advising I had a scan and then received the appropriate treatment. As a result, I discovered I had a massive prolapse disc and severe sciatica. It has taken me many months to get back to normal but thanks to the special individual care of Applied Pilates, I am functioning very well and I also now understand how to look after myself when I cannot make my regular sessions at the studio. I cannot thank them enough.
Teejay saved my squash career
on 24 Sep 2014 by Adam Auckland | Occupation: Professional Squash Player
I am 21, world ranked professional squash player. I’ve been playing squash ever since I was 10 and had many injuries. One injury wouldn’t go away which was my back. I went to see endless physiotherapists, osteopaths and chiropractors and they couldn’t find out what the problem was. 4 years ago I was considering ending my career but then I found Teejay at Applied Pilates. Ever since then I have been working with Teejay and I’ve never met anyone who has had such an understanding in how my body works and reacts to different exercises and movements within my sport. He was able to identify what the problem was straight away, how it was caused and how to prevent the problem reoccurring. Teejay is the main reason I am still playing today.
